If you are having suicidal thoughts, read this email 💭
A week ago, TikTok invited content creators
to create content under this hashtag
Reason: September is the mental health
awareness month.
I responded by sharing a story about how
I lost a friend to suicide this year.
At the end of the video, I ended with this:
“If you are having suicidal thoughts and
you have no one to talk to, I am just a DM
away”
To my shock, I ended up with over 200+
DMs and comments asking for help.
I then spent the entire weekend responding
to them.
It was really depressing.
A primary 6 kid stressed out about his PSLE
and feel like he is about to go crazy.
A mid-career lady distraught over her
husband’s cheating and wanted to kill herself.
A young girl who tried ending her life with
pills but failed.
As I read their DMs, I got visibly distressed
because there is SO MANY hurting people.
People are so suffering silently with no idea
how to get out of the darkness.
Because of this incident, I spent hours
reading up on how to help them with
their depression, anxiety and suicidal
thoughts.
Even consulted experts and learnt so much
about what NOT TO DO when helping
people who are mentally unwell.
I shared screen shots of the advice I got
and it blew up.
Hundreds of DMs requesting for the full
screen shots.
And it even led me to create more videos
to help people who are super stressed out
about the pandemic.
You can find these videos on TikTok.
And I hope they will bring you or your friend
some comfort.
I have three more videos coming up tonight
on how to help friends and family members
with suicide.
Let’s look out for each other ok?
