š Do this and you will be well loved by many š
For years in school, I suffer the curse of invisibility.
No one talks to me in class unless they needed to copy my homework.
I get picked last for basketball and soccer.
And I never get invited for birthday parties.
Then one day, during university, I stumbled upon a really old book (published in 1936) that changed my life for the better.
It made me popular.
I was voted President of my student club.
I got invited to the coolest parties in school.
I attracted powerful mentors.
I became a global speaker.
Among the 63,075 words written in this book, these 21 words made all the difference.
āThe single most important ingredient that will make any relationship succeed comes down to being genuinely interested in the other person.ā
You might want to read these 21 words again.
My biggest takeaway from the book:
Be genuinely interested in the other person.
And I took this lesson to heart.
Each time I meet a person, whether a friend or a client, I would imagine he/she is the most important person in the world.
I will ask him/her thoughtful questions.
I will listen attentively to what he/she says.
I will remember dates that are special to them.
It is really that simple.
While most people try to catch attention from others, I gave people all the attention they want ā and it made me very popular.
Years later, Harvard showed us the science behind this relationship hack.
Whenever you let someone share something about themselves, dopamine (happy chemical) gets released in their brain which gives them more positive memories of your interaction with them.
This is why when you are genuinely interested in a person, the person cannot help but to āfall in loveā with you.
So how do you we put this powerful insight into practice.
Simple.
Every day, prepare one question to ask the people you interact with.
Be it offline or online.
A question that help you get to know the person better.
Their passions.
Their struggles.
Their values.
Their goals.
